Wayne CDU980 3/4 HP Stainless Submersible Basement Pump

The design of the Wayne CDU980 3/4 HP Stainless Submersible Basement Pump makes frequently flooded basements a thing of the past. It features a stainless steel housing to reduce the incidence of corrosion. A cast iron pump makes this pump durable and long lasting. The high flow rate and superior no clog suction system make this one of the most popular sump pumps in America today. The engineered polypropylene impeller drives water at an incredible rate for a pump with such a small footprint. The ceramic seal keeps the upper and lower bearings bathed in oil and they never need oiling. The stainless steel float switch requires a sump basin of just over 11 inches in diameter to operate. It has a top suction screen to filter out debris and stop clogging during heavy operation.

The pump comes with a vertical float switch that operates on a rod along the side of the pump and the increased reliability and performance of this valve keeps it from sticking when the pump is needed most. The CDU980 is a high capacity pump that can move 58 gallons a minute at a 10-foot head. It is designed for occasional submerging but is not approved for aquatic immersion on a constant basis. The sealed bearing cases never need oiling and are water and dust proof.

The Reviews

A recent writer said that this is a great workhorse when it comes to sump pumps. When my sump pump stops working it is like a river is running under my basement and it fills with water in a hurry. During the winter when it is wet, this pump runs every 5 minutes to keep the water at bay and during the summer, it runs about every 2 hours. This pump has never failed me. I have a long way to push the water through an inch and a half pipe so I needed something with some kick to it. Most pumps that can kick out this much water this fast are loud but not this one, I can barely tell it is running even when I am in the basement. The float never sticks and this pump is the workhorse I needed to keep my basement dry all year round.

This baby is a basement saver and then some wrote a recent convert to the Wayne sump pump. Here in NE Ohio we got hit with double the usual amount of rainfall during the spring of 2011. Most of the houses on our street had water problems. Not us, this unit came on about every five minutes and emptied a standard size sump pit then shut off. It pushed the water out and away from the house so fast that I was amazed that it did not overheat. My neighbor had an older ½ horsepower sump pump and it ran continuously but did not keep the water out. This thing is quiet too. I have had it in for about 6 months and it is working perfectly.
